Intra-oral Massage for Jaw Pain
Do you suffer from jaw pain, perhaps because you grind your teeth (bruxism) or have had a dental procedure that requires your mouth to remain open for an extended period of time? There is a specific massage that can help to relax the jaw muscles. This massage is done both over the temporomandibular (TMJ) joint as well as intra orally, or inside the mouth, at the attachment of the Lateral Pterygoid muscle.
There is some discomfort with this massage treatment but many people find that it benefits by decreasing tension and increasing range of motion in the jaw. This massage can be performed in the context of a relaxation massage which targets the back, shoulder and neck muscles.
